Definitions of the terms this archive uses, written for someone reading a wage determination for the first time.
- Prevailing wage
- The wage rate and fringe benefit rate the US Department of Labor has determined to be prevailing for a class of worker in a locality, for use on covered federally funded contracts.
- Wage determination
- A published Department of Labor document listing wage and fringe rates by classification for a locality and construction type.
- Davis-Bacon Act
- The federal statute requiring that laborers and mechanics on covered federally funded construction contracts be paid no less than the locally prevailing wages and fringe benefits determined by the Department of Labor.
- Modification (revision)
- A revision to a published wage determination, carrying its own number, publication date and public record.
- Superseded determination
- A revision that a later revision has displaced, or a determination replaced at the annual rollover.
- Fringe benefits
- The hourly fringe benefit rate published alongside the base rate in a wage determination, which may be expressed as an amount, a percentage of the base rate, or with footnote references.
